Volvo C30, S60, S80, XC60 and XC90 Named 2012 Top Safety Picks

Park Place Volvo in Dallas is pleased to announce that five Volvo models today were named 2012 Top Safety Pick winners by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a total unsurpassed by any other luxury car brand. Top Safety Pick winners included the Volvo C30, Volvo S60, Volvo S80, Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90.

To determine crashworthiness, how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash, the Institute rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal, or poor based on performance in high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, plus evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. To earn Top Safety Pick for 2012 a vehicle must have good ratings in all four Institute tests.

"Safety has been a hallmark of Volvo since we were founded in 1927," said John Maloney, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America. "Our employees around the world take great pride in making, selling and servicing our cars. Still, it's very humbling to be recognized in such a manner."

The IIHS also awarded the following other luxury brands Top Safety Pick awards: Mercedes-Benz (5), Audi (4), Acura (3), Infiniti (2), BMW (2), and Lexus (2).
